Real Madrid reach Champions League semi-finals after penalty shoot-out win over Manchester City
Lunin the hero as holders eliminated
Rodrygo's first-half goal cancelled out by De Bruyne as tie ends 4-4 on aggregate
Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin saved two penalties in the shoot-out as the Spanish giants eliminated holders Manchester City to reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the fourth season in a row.
The match finished 1-1 after extra-time, with Rodrygo's first-half goal for Real Madrid cancelled out by Kevin De Bruyne's equaliser for City.
Lunin then saved spot-kicks from Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden in the shoot-out, while Karim Benzema, Rodrygo, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric all converted their penalties for Real Madrid.
The result means that Real Madrid will now face either Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, while Manchester City's hopes of retaining their Champions League crown are over.
The match was a close and entertaining affair, with both teams having chances to win the game in regulation time.
Real Madrid took the lead in the first half when Rodrygo finished off a fine move involving Benzema and Vinicius Junior.
However, City equalised in the second half when De Bruyne fired home a low shot from the edge of the area.
The match went to extra-time, but neither team could find a winning goal, so the tie went to a penalty shoot-out.
Lunin was the hero for Real Madrid in the shoot-out, saving two penalties to send his team through to the semi-finals.
